FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) – Waste Management is building a compressed natural gas fueling facility at its Fairborn location.
This will be the second fleet of natural gas trucks that Waste Management has on the road in Ohio.
“This new fueling facility will give us the direct capability to fuel a CNG fleet in the Dayton area, and with the CNG fleet, we’ll lower our fleet emissions, helping to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. This demonstrates our commitment to being a positive environmental contributor to the communities we serve,” said James Profitt, Senior District Manager for Waste Management of Ohio. . “The transitioning of our 96 trucks to CNG fits within our sustainability goals and our company’s overall strategy to minimize our environmental footprint.”
The trucks will emit nearly zero air particulates and up to 25-percent fewer greenhouse emissions.
Each truck will carry about 50 gallons of CNG. It should be enough to complete one daily waste or recycling pickup route.
33 new CNG trucks are expected to arrive by November. The transition of the rest of the fleet to CNG will take a couple more years.
Construction of the new Fairborn fueling facility begins in August.
